Job Title:  Children's Director (k-5th grade)

Time:  20-25 hours per week, present on Sundays as well as regularly scheduled office hours.

General Job Description:  Responsible for facilitating the coordination, development, and administration of the ministry of Christian education for the children Kindergarten thru 5th grade and their parent/s.  The Children’s Ministry Director will coordinate, recruit and develop teams of volunteers and committees to implement and bring to life the overall vision and direction for the Children’s Ministry Program.  The Children’s Director will report to the Executive Pastor.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES:

Administrative duties:

  • Resource educational ministries and curriculum for Children K thru 5th grade.
  • Provide curriculum materials, equipment and other supplies are available as needed.  Ensure equipment, classrooms and supplies are inventoried and maintained.
  • Maintain K thru 5th grade attendance records for annual reporting as well as keep accurate records in Fellowship One.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Work with volunteers to oversee and develop quality programs for the children’s ministry.
  • Provide leadership for volunteer recruitment for Sunday programs, mid-week programs, summer camp and other special children’s ministry events.
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers, ensuring screening and background checks and scheduling as needed to support various activities and ministries.  Maintain and ensure proper adult to child ratios for all programming and events for K thru 5th grade.
  • Be available to teachers and volunteers on Sunday mornings and at other requested times for resourcing, encouragement, guidance and support.
  • Coordinate and execute communication about Children’s Ministry opportunities in the church through the creation of calendars, flyers, mailings, telephoning, emailing, newsletter announcements and other tools.
  • Plan, oversee and implement annual and quarterly training, orientation and continuing educational opportunities for teachers and volunteers throughout the year.
  • Attend and help facilitate leadership for Children’s Ministry leadership team meetings.
  • Develop a good relationship with volunteers.
  • Demonstrate a positive, friendly and energetic attitude with the parents and the children who are in your care. 
  • Substitute if needed in a classroom.
  • Report all needs, concerns (damaged toys/equipment or safety hazards) and supplies to the Executive Pastor.
  • Keep classrooms clean, sanitized and looking neat.
  • Reviews will be conducted twice a year for the purpose of evaluation, direction, planning and vision unification.
  • Wear designated KIDS attire while serving.
  • Other duties as requested by the Executive Pastor.

Spiritual Development:

Since the nature of position involves spiritual leadership, it is expected that this person will discipline himself or herself to maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is evident to those that they lead and serve under.  This person shall be a part of the Willowbrook family through small groups and yearly functions that promote the welfare of church community.

It is also expected that he or she will maintain high standards of morality and ethics and be a proper example to those both in the church and in the surrounding community. 

Oversight & Reporting:

  • The Children’s Director reports directly to the Executive Pastor.

Education, Experience and Core Competencies:

  • B.A. in Elementary Education/Primary Education preferred.
  • 2-4 Years Classroom Educational Experience preferred.
  • 5 Years Leadership Experience (paid or unpaid) in ministry or church setting preferred.
  • Proven capacity for strong leadership in developing shared vision, establishing strategic plans, motivating individuals, and driving toward goals with accountability.
